Trump Plans Special Washington Event Ahead of Midterm Elections as Michigan Democrats Face Party Division
President Donald Trump is preparing for an event at Washington’s Reflecting Pool ahead of the US midterm elections. Meanwhile, a Michigan Democrat’s endorsement of a Republican candidate has sparked controversy within her party.
With the US midterm elections just one day away, President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a special event at Washington, DC’s Reflecting Pool. At the same time, political tensions are growing among Michigan Democrats after a member of their party endorsed a Republican Senate candidate instead of supporting her party’s nominee.
According to the Associated Press, Trump is scheduled to speak at the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m. local time on Monday, November 2. Before the event, he is also expected to participate in several online campaign-related appearances from the White House. The timing of the event is significant because Americans will vote in the 2026 midterm elections on November 3. The elections will determine which party controls the House of Representatives and the Senate. Trump has said that renovation work at the Reflecting Pool has been completed and that he wants people to see the improved site.
the renovation project has faced criticism and delays. The administration initially estimated that the work would cost approximately $1.5 million. The project took nearly three months longer than expected, and the final cost reportedly exceeded the original estimate by more than ten times. After the renovation, algae appeared in the water and parts of the blue coating began peeling, creating further concerns about the quality of the work.
Michigan is facing a political controversy involving Democratic Representative Haley Stevens and the state's Senate race. Stevens, who previously competed in the Democratic Senate primary, announced her support for Republican candidate Mike Rogers instead of Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
According to Reuters, Stevens appeared alongside Rogers at a church in Detroit on November 1 and publicly endorsed his candidacy. Her decision has angered several Democratic leaders, particularly because it came just before Election Day. Some party members believe the endorsement could confuse voters and weaken Democratic efforts in the state.
Stevens had previously indicated support for El-Sayed after losing the Democratic primary. However, she later changed her position, citing concerns about some of his campaign statements, particularly those involving US military assistance to Israel and a campaign advertisement about the cost of living.
El-Sayed's campaign, meanwhile, has sought to maintain its momentum. His team said it received $1.2 million in donations within four hours after Stevens announced her endorsement of Rogers. A poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College showed El-Sayed leading Rogers by 53 percent to 42 percent. However, polling results do not determine the final election outcome.
The Michigan Senate race is considered important because its outcome could influence which party controls the Senate. As Election Day approaches, Trump's Washington event and the growing divisions among Michigan Democrats highlight the political tensions surrounding the 2026 US midterm elections.
