FBI Director Christopher Announces Resignation Ahead of Donald Trump’s Presidency
FBI Director Christopher has announced his resignation ahead of Donald Trump assuming office as President. This news was reported by BBC Online.
The report stated that Christopher made the announcement during an internal FBI meeting on Wednesday, stating his intention to step down from his position within the next few weeks. He plans to resign before Trump’s official inauguration in January.
Meanwhile, Trump has already started shaping his administration, appointing close allies to various key positions.
Trump has nominated Indian-American Kash Patel as the new head of the FBI. Patel, who has called for a dramatic reduction in the FBI’s powers to lead law enforcement agencies, is set to take over the role. Christopher himself was originally appointed by Trump in 2017 for a ten-year term.
However, after Trump’s defeat in the 2020 election, the FBI launched an investigation into him, which led to criticism of Christopher from Republicans.
During Wednesday’s meeting, Christopher said, “I have decided that the right step for the Bureau and for me is to serve until the end of the current administration in January and then step down.” He added, “In my view, this is the best way to avoid taking the Bureau deeper into turmoil.”
