In a dramatic turn of events, Syrian rebels have declared victory, announcing that President Bashar al-Assad has fled the country, marking the end of his rule. According to Reuters, two senior officials confirmed that Assad left Damascus for an unknown destination, signaling a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict.

The announcement was made by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Islamist militant group that has led the latest offensive against Assad’s regime. Through their Telegram channel, the group declared the end of a "dark era" and the beginning of a "new era" for Syria, celebrating what they described as a decisive victory.

Rebels have seized control of key state institutions, including national television, radio stations, and other significant government buildings. HTS leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani issued a directive for the Syrian military to withdraw from these government institutions, which will remain under the control of Syria’s former prime minister until further notice.

In Damascus, streets were filled with jubilant crowds celebrating the apparent collapse of the Assad regime. Videos and reports showed large numbers of people gathering in various locations, celebrating what they believe to be a turning point for Syria's future.

The rebels also took control of Syria's largest prison, Sednaya, releasing thousands of prisoners, many of whom had been held under the Assad regime's brutal repression. According to rebel statements, these individuals, many of whom had been victims of Assad's persecution, can now return safely to their homes.

In a significant development, Hezbollah forces have also begun pulling their troops from various regions of Syria, signaling the potential weakening of foreign support for Assad’s regime.

The sudden collapse of Assad’s government has sent shockwaves through the international community, with various governments watching closely to see how this dramatic shift will affect the broader dynamics of the Syrian conflict and the future of the country.
