West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have voiced concerns over the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh and the subsequent reports of violence against minorities in the neighboring country.

Speaking to journalists in the West Bengal Assembly on Thursday, Banerjee said, “I do not want any attack on any religion. I have spoken to the ISKCON representative here regarding this matter. Since this pertains to another country, the central government must take necessary steps. On this issue, we stand with the central government.”

Banerjee’s comments come after her party’s MP, Sougata Roy, described the developments as “very unfortunate and concerning.” Speaking to PTI in New Delhi, Roy condemned the incidents, saying, “This kind of oppression of Hindus is unacceptable, and I strongly condemn it.”

This marks the first time Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress leader, has publicly commented on the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and the reported violence targeting minorities in Bangladesh.

For the past two days, BJP leaders have criticized the West Bengal Chief Minister and the ruling Trinamool Congress for their silence on the issue, questioning why there was no response from the state government while atrocities against Hindus were reportedly taking place in the neighboring country.

Separately, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her concerns on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). She described the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and the ongoing violence against Bangladesh’s minority Hindu community as “deeply troubling.”

In her post, Vadra wrote, “I urge the central government to intervene and raise this issue forcefully with the government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of minorities.”

The situation has sparked widespread reactions in both India and Bangladesh, with political leaders and human rights groups calling for greater protection of minority rights and diplomatic intervention to prevent further incidents.
