Iran Faces ‘Last Chance’ to Reach a Deal, Trump Says.

President Donald Trump has announced that diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran have resumed, expressing confidence that an agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and addressing Iran’s nuclear programme could be reached soon.

According to the White House, the discussions are focused on restoring safe maritime navigation through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz while seeking a diplomatic framework to reduce tensions over Tehran’s nuclear activities.

Trump described the negotiations as Iran’s “last chance” to reach a peaceful agreement, adding that diplomacy remains Washington’s preferred option, although other measures remain available if talks fail.

Iranian officials, however, rejected reports of direct negotiations with the United States. Tehran stated that discussions are taking place indirectly through Omani mediators, maintaining its longstanding position on diplomatic engagement.

Security concerns remain high in the Gulf. A Liberia-flagged cargo vessel was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, becoming the fourth commercial ship targeted since Friday. The crew abandoned the vessel during the incident, while one crew member remains missing.

The latest maritime attack underscores the fragile security environment in one of the world’s busiest energy corridors, through which a significant share of global oil exports passes.

Analysts believe that while renewed diplomatic engagement offers hope for de-escalation, continued attacks on commercial shipping demonstrate that tensions remain elevated. The outcome of the ongoing negotiations could have significant implications for regional stability, global energy markets, and international trade.
