PM’s China Visit Opens New Chapter in Bangladesh-China Diplomacy: Altaf Hossain Chowdhury

Dhaka, June 27: Ruling party lawmaker Altaf Hossain Chowdhury has praised Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to China, describing it as a significant diplomatic achievement that has elevated Bangladesh-China relations to a new level.

Speaking during the general discussion on the proposed FY2026-27 national budget in Parliament, Altaf said the Prime Minister’s high-level meetings in Beijing, particularly with Chinese President Xi Jinping, would strengthen strategic cooperation and deepen bilateral ties between the two countries.

He noted that the visit is expected to expand collaboration in trade, investment, infrastructure development, technology, and economic cooperation, creating new opportunities for Bangladesh’s long-term development.

Altaf also linked the government’s proposed Tk 938,000 crore national budget with the country’s growing international engagement, saying the budget provides a practical roadmap for economic recovery while Bangladesh’s stronger diplomatic partnerships, especially with China, will help attract investment and accelerate development.

“The Prime Minister’s China visit has added a new dimension to Bangladesh’s diplomacy,” he said, adding that closer cooperation with Beijing will support the country’s efforts to achieve sustainable economic growth amid global economic uncertainty.

Congratulating both the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Altaf described the proposed budget as timely and forward-looking despite challenges posed by global inflation, the Russia-Ukraine war, and instability in the Middle East.

He further said the government’s recent diplomatic initiatives reflect Bangladesh’s commitment to maintaining balanced international relations while expanding economic partnerships with key global partners.

Altaf concluded by expressing confidence that the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s China visit, combined with the government’s economic agenda, would enhance Bangladesh’s global standing and contribute to stronger regional cooperation and long-term prosperity.
