Syrian-Bangladeshi Dual Citizen Found Dead in Rented House in Patuakhali
Police have recovered the body of Majed Al Khatib (73), a Syrian citizen with Bangladeshi dual nationality, from a rented residence in the Nawabpara area of Patuakhali town.
The body was recovered at around 9:00 p.m. on Friday (July 24) after police broke open the door to his room.
According to local sources, the man who regularly delivered his meals found the room locked from the inside and received no response despite repeated calls. The matter was then reported to the landlord, who informed the police.
A team from Patuakhali Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene, forced the door open, and found Majed Al Khatib lying unconscious on his bed. Officers later confirmed that he had already passed away.
Landlord K.M. Shahadat Khan said Al Khatib had lived in the house for a long time and was known as a polite and respectable person. Family members occasionally visited him.
Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station said the deceased held both Syrian and Bangladeshi citizenship. He possessed a Bangladeshi National Identity Card, and his family resides in Bangladesh.
The body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy, while his son has already arrived in Patuakhali. Police said the exact cause of death will be determined following the investigation and post-mortem examination.
