Bhutanese PM Tshering Tobgay Arrives in Dhaka, Pays Tribute to Liberation War Martyrs


Dhaka, November 22, 2025: Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning for a two-day state visit. Bangladesh rolled out the red carpet to welcome him.

The Bhutanese leader was received by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) after landing at around 8:15 am via a Drukair flight. The two leaders held a brief meeting at the airport VIP lounge, where Prime Minister Tobgay expressed condolences over the damages and loss of lives caused by Friday’s earthquake and extended sympathies to the victims’ families.

Following the meeting, Tobgay was escorted to a makeshift saluting dais, where he received a 19-gun salute and a guard of honor. Afterwards, he visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay homage to Bangladesh’s Liberation War martyrs. He laid a wreath at the memorial altar, signed the visitors’ book, and planted a bakul sapling in the memorial premises.

In the afternoon, Bangladesh’s foreign and commerce advisers are expected to meet the Bhutanese leader, followed by a tête-à-tête with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his office in Tejgaon around 3:00 pm. In the evening, an official banquet will be held in honor of Prime Minister Tobgay.

The state visit aims to strengthen Bangladesh-Bhutan diplomatic ties and explore new avenues for cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries.
