Former President Barack Obama Committed Treason, Led Election Conspiracy with Russia – President Donald Trump
[Washington, July 22, 2025] — President Donald Trump has accused former President Barack Obama of treason, claiming—without presenting evidence—that Obama led a false conspiracy involving Russian interference in the 2016 election to discredit Trump.
Obama’s spokesperson, Patrick Rodenbush, dismissed Trump’s claims as “ridiculous and a distraction tactic.”
Role of Intelligence and Tulsi Gabbard
Trump’s accusations were largely influenced by a recent statement from his intelligence chief, Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard recently released some classified documents, claiming that top officials in the Obama administration engaged in a treasonous conspiracy during the 2016 election to defeat Trump.
However, Democrats and independent analysts argue that Gabbard’s claims contradict previous investigations and official reports. In fact, the 2017 intelligence report clearly stated that Russia attempted to help Trump through hacking, bot farms, and disinformation campaigns on social media. But there was no evidence that the election results were altered.
Former Republicans Also Disagree
Even former Republicans have voiced disagreement. The Senate Intelligence Committee, led by former Republican Senator and current Secretary of State Marco Rubio, found that intelligence agencies did not act with political motives. Democratic Congressman Jim Himes stated that Trump is deliberately spreading falsehoods.
Epstein Connection Raises Pressure on Trump
This accusation comes at a time when Trump himself is under renewed scrutiny over his past ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex trafficker who died by suicide in 2019. With media attention resurfacing on their past association, critics believe Trump is lashing out at Obama to shift focus away from his own controversies.
Trump even shared a fake video on social media showing Obama being arrested in handcuffs, sparking widespread controversy.
Trump has a long history of attacking Obama—starting with the 2011 “birther” conspiracy theory questioning Obama’s birthplace, to the current treason allegations. He has also made similar baseless conspiracy claims against current President Joe Biden.
Many see Trump’s treason accusations as a political maneuver—especially amid increasing pressure surrounding the Epstein issue. Analysts argue that Tulsi Gabbard’s interpretation of the documents is misleading and inconsistent with the official U.S. reports from 2017 and 2020.
