“Unconditional Support Until Victory for Russia in Ukraine War” – North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un
[North Korea – July 13, 2025] – North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un has pledged “unconditional support until the end” for Russia in its war in Ukraine. The pledge was made during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to North Korea, as confirmed on Saturday by North Korea’s state news agency KCNA.
Lavrov is currently in North Korea on a three-day official visit and held a high-level strategic meeting with Kim Jong Un in the eastern coastal city of Wonsan. North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui also participated in the discussions alongside her Russian counterpart.
Strengthening the Military Alliance
The talks focused on the implementation of agreements signed during the 2024 Russia–North Korea summit. During the meeting, Kim stated:
“We will unconditionally support any action taken by Russia. In light of shifting global geopolitical dynamics, our joint position will play a central role in establishing international security.”
Kim Expresses Full Confidence in Russian Forces
Russia’s Foreign Ministry released a video on Telegram showing Kim and Lavrov shaking hands and embracing warmly. Kim said:
“I have full confidence in the victory of the Russian armed forces and people. They will triumph in defending Russia’s dignity and sovereign rights.”
North Korea’s Troop and Weapons Support
According to KCNA, since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, North Korea has provided Russia with more than 10,000 troops and military equipment. Kim also pledged additional military support going forward.
Lavrov Delivers Putin’s Message: Interested in Direct Talks with Kim
Russian news agency TASS reported that Lavrov conveyed President Vladimir Putin’s desire to deepen bilateral ties through direct talks with Kim Jong Un.
Ahead of Lavrov’s visit, Russia also announced the launch of two weekly regular flights between Moscow and Pyongyang.
Lavrov added that there are plans to develop Wonsan into a tourist destination, calling it a “promising travel spot” for Russian citizens.
