Despite the ongoing blockade and continued airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, a significant agreement has been reached between the European Union (EU) and Israel aimed at increasing humanitarian aid access and ensuring the safety of aid workers.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced the deal in a social media statement, saying:
“Today we reached an agreement with Israel to expand humanitarian access into Gaza.”

She stated that under the agreement, more border crossings would be opened to allow trucks carrying food, medicine, and supplies into Gaza. The deal also includes commitments to rebuild essential infrastructure and ensure the safety of humanitarian workers.

In a separate statement, Kallas outlined additional measures, including:

  • Reopening humanitarian aid routes through Jordan and Egypt,

  • Expanding food distribution via bakeries and public kitchens across Gaza,

  • Resuming fuel supply to maintain the operation of facilities used for humanitarian purposes.

She added:
“Ensuring aid worker safety, repairing vital infrastructure, and restoring functionality—such as resuming electricity supply to water purification plants—are all part of this effort.”

Kallas noted that some of these steps have already been implemented, while the remaining measures will be rolled out over the coming days. She emphasized that both parties share a mutual understanding that large-scale aid must reach the population directly and that systems will be in place to prevent the aid from falling into Hamas’s hands.
