Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has followed through on his promise to form a new political party in the United States. The move comes just days after President Donald Trump signed his controversial budget legislation, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Musk announced the creation of the “America Party,” saying the goal is to restore freedom to the American people and challenge what he called the country’s “one-party system.”

On Independence Day (July 4), Musk had run a poll asking:
“Do you want freedom from the two-party (or what some call the ‘uniparty’) system?”
More than 1.2 million people responded, with a 2-to-1 majority in favor of a new political party.

Musk wrote:
“You asked for a new political party, and now you have it!”

He further stated:
“When it comes to budget waste and corruption bankrupting the country, we are living under a one-party regime—not a democracy. The ‘America Party’ is here to return your freedom.”

The announcement comes amid escalating tensions between Musk and Trump. Musk has sharply criticized the newly passed budget bill, claiming it would add $3.4 trillion to the deficit over the next decade and push the U.S. toward bankruptcy.

Notably, Musk was a major donor to Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign and even headed the “Department of Government Efficiency” during Trump’s second term, which aimed to reduce government spending.

But that alliance has now collapsed. Musk had previously warned he would form a new party and fund efforts to defeat those who supported the budget bill in upcoming elections.

He said:
“Even if it’s the last thing I do on this Earth, I will make sure they lose their primaries.”

The White House and Trump’s camp did not issue an immediate response to Musk’s announcement.
However, earlier this week, Trump had warned that federal subsidies to Musk’s companies could be cut, and even hinted at deporting Musk from the United States.

When asked by reporters whether Musk could be expelled from the country, Trump replied:
“We’re looking into it.”
(Musk has been a U.S. citizen since 2002.)

It remains unclear how much impact the new party will have in the 2026 midterms or the 2028 presidential election.

On Friday, alongside the survey, Musk also laid out his political vision, stating:
“We’ll focus on 2–3 Senate races and 8–10 House races to make the America Party a decisive force in legislation.”

In the U.S., all 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for election every two years, along with one-third of the 100-member Senate.

Though Musk’s vast personal wealth provides a major advantage, breaking the 160-year dominance of the Republican and Democratic parties remains an immense challenge—especially as Trump continues to maintain over 40% national support despite his controversial policies.
