[Pakistan, June 21, 2025] — Amid recent military tensions between India and Pakistan in South Asia, the Pakistani government has officially announced the nomination of President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his “decisive diplomatic intervention.”

In a statement, the Pakistani government said Trump demonstrated “extraordinary strategic foresight and strong statesmanlike leadership” and played a significant role in calming the rapidly deteriorating situation between New Delhi and Islamabad.

A day before this announcement, President Trump claimed in Washington that his diplomatic role in easing tensions—from the recent peace agreement between Congo and Rwanda to the conflicts between India-Pakistan and Serbia-Kosovo—has not been duly appreciated. He accused the Norwegian Nobel Committee of failing to properly recognize his contributions.

During his election campaign, Trump portrayed himself as a “peacemaker” promising swift action to resolve ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, although these two conflicts continue even after five months of his administration.

Indian officials, however, have expressed skepticism about Trump’s peace efforts and asserted that Trump did not play any role in the recent ceasefire with Pakistan.

Nonetheless, Pakistan’s side praised Trump’s diplomatic efforts in a statement published on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “This intervention is proof of his genuine peacekeeping role and reflects his commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue.”

The military tension began after a militant attack in Kashmir, which India blamed on Pakistan, a claim Islamabad denies. The four-day-long escalation raised fears of another large-scale war between the two nuclear-armed countries.

During this period, Trump also offered to mediate on the Kashmir issue. The Pakistani government stated, “Peace in South Asia is not possible unless the United Nations Security Council’s proposals on Kashmir are implemented. Trump’s sincere mediation has created the possibility for a political resolution to this longstanding problem.”

The Pakistani government further expressed hope that President Trump’s “realistic diplomacy and effective peacebuilding legacy” could play an important role not only in South Asia but also in easing ongoing crises in the Middle East, such as those surrounding Gaza and Iran.
