Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. According to Russian state news agency TASS, both leaders expressed “deep concern” over the current state of the conflict and emphasized the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.
During the conversation, President Putin once again offered Russia’s proposal to mediate in the crisis. He informed the Emirati leader that he has been in discussions with other regional leaders to help de-escalate the situation and updated him on the progress of those diplomatic efforts.
Russia has previously attempted to play a diplomatic role in addressing various crises in the Middle East. However, the current direct military confrontation between Israel and Iran has triggered widespread international alarm.
Analysts believe that to avoid a large-scale war at this stage, swift action by both regional and global powers is critically important.
