Pakistan Closes Border with Iran Amid Escalating Iran-Israel Conflict in the Middle East
Pakistan — June 16, 2025
Amid the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel in the Middle East, Pakistan has decided to temporarily close its border with Iran.
Senior official Qadir Bakhsh Pirkaani from Pakistan’s Balochistan province confirmed the decision to AFP on Monday. He stated,
“Five border crossings between Balochistan and Iran have been temporarily closed. The situation is being monitored, and the border will remain closed until further notice.”
This move comes as reciprocal attacks between Iran and Israel continue, causing a steadily worsening security situation across the Middle East.
Analysts believe that by closing its border, Pakistan aims to ensure its internal security while maintaining a strategic stance of non-involvement in the conflict.
The regions along the Pakistan-Iran border—particularly Taftan, Gabd, Mashkhel, Panjgur, and Turbat—are known for regular trade and cross-border movement. The closure of these routes is expected to adversely affect local commerce.
Meanwhile, Islamabad has not yet issued any official statement regarding the Iran-Israel conflict. However, this border closure is seen by observers as a sign of shifting security and diplomatic priorities in Pakistan.
