“The Ongoing Israeli Crisis Can Only Be Resolved Through Nuclear Deal Negotiations,” Says French President Macron to Iranian President Pezeshkian
Paris, June 15, 2025 — French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with Iran’s newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging the resumption of talks on Iran’s nuclear program. The French President’s office announced that the purpose of the discussions was to reach a new agreement that would help ease tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Macron said,
“Dialogue is the only sustainable way to calm tensions.”

He further added,
“Iran’s nuclear program is a serious concern, and its resolution must be achieved through negotiations.”

In light of the ongoing unrest in the Middle East, Macron requested assurances for the security of French citizens and diplomatic missions residing in Iran. He emphasized,
“It is essential to exercise the utmost restraint to avoid escalating tensions.”

At the start of the conversation, Macron called for the release of two French nationals detained in Iran, Cecile Collar and Jack Paris, who have been held in what he described as “unacceptable conditions” for over three years.

Concluding the call, Macron said,
“I urged President Pezeshkian to promptly return to negotiations and reach an agreement — which is the only realistic path to de-escalate tensions.”

He assured,
“France stands ready to cooperate and engage in all diplomatic efforts to achieve this goal.”

This phone call took place amid renewed direct conflict and nuclear tensions between Israel and Iran, which have sparked fresh concerns in global politics. Macron’s diplomatic initiative is seen as a significant effort by the European Union to revive negotiations.
