Washington, USA, June 11, 2025 — In a statement early Wednesday, President Donald Trump said that if he had not deployed the U.S. military and National Guard to Los Angeles, the city would have “burned to ashes.” He took this step to control the ongoing violent anti-ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) protests and riots across the city.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“If our troops had not gone to Los Angeles, the city would now be completely burned to ashes — just like many residential areas had burned in previous fires.”
He added,
“The great people of Los Angeles are very lucky that I decided to send help there!!!”
Trump also harshly criticized California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. He accused the governor of failing to take timely and effective security measures, which resulted in federal immigration officers (ICE) being attacked.
In another Truth Social post, Trump said:
“California’s incompetent governor failed to provide timely security while our ICE officers — who are true patriots — were attacked by violent rioters, agitators, and/or insurgents.”
He further declared:
“Until a fully secure environment is ensured, troops will remain stationed in Los Angeles.”
Governor Newsom’s Response
Governor Gavin Newsom strongly criticized President Trump’s deployment decision. He said Trump’s military deployment is worsening the city’s situation and “pouring fuel on the fire of the riots.”
Currently, Los Angeles is witnessing protests and violence centered around immigration issues, which has further escalated tensions between federal and local authorities.
