Turkey will export 48 advanced KAAN fighter jets to Indonesia under a newly signed defense agreement, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Erdoğan expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the KAAN project, particularly the Defense Industries Presidency (SSB) and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), who played a leading role in executing this record-breaking export deal.
Erdoğan also noted that Indonesia’s own technological capabilities will be incorporated into the project.
“I believe this agreement—an emblem of our national defense industry's progress and success—will bring benefits to both Turkey and Indonesia,” he stated.
The KAAN is a fifth-generation fighter jet developed by TAI. It successfully completed its first flight last year, reaching a speed of 230 knots and an altitude of 8,000 feet. With this, Turkey has joined the elite group of countries possessing such cutting-edge technology.
According to a statement from TAI, the official contract for the 48 KAAN jets was signed during the INDO Defense 2025 event in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital.
Under the agreement, all 48 aircraft will be delivered within the next 120 months. The jets will be equipped with domestically produced Turkish engines.
Beyond aircraft delivery, the agreement includes provisions for the transfer of aviation technology to Indonesia. Strategic cooperation will also be established to enhance Indonesia’s local capabilities through knowledge and technology sharing.
SSB President Haluk Görgün wrote on X:
“As we mark a century of Turkish aviation, we are proud to share our fifth-generation fighter jet with our friendly nations. Turkish engineering is now helping to shape the global security architecture.”
He added that the project, led by TAI and supported by Indonesia’s top defense institutions, is a real example of joint production, technology exchange, and strategic partnership.
TAI General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu stated:
“With this deal, Turkey has become a symbol of reliability for its friends and allies. The rise of KAAN is a powerful testament to Turkey’s global vision, confidence, and engineering prowess.”
