President Putin is stuck in the Ukraine war, doesn’t know how to get out – Vice President JD Vance

Vice President JD Vance has expressed doubt that Russian President Vladimir Putin has any clear strategy to end Moscow’s war against Ukraine. He suggested that Putin may be trapped in the war and doesn’t know how to get out of it.

Speaking to reporters before returning to Washington, DC, after attending Pope Leo’s inauguration at the Vatican, Vance said:

“I think President Putin himself doesn’t know how to get out of this war.”

He further added:

“One important question is—is Putin truly interested in peace negotiations? … He has taken some significant steps, but it seems we are now at a stalemate.”

Vance issued a warning that if there is no progress, the United States may begin to disengage from the conflict:

“This process requires participation from both sides. I know our president is ready for that. But if Russia is not willing to engage, then at some point we’ll have to say—this is not our war.”
