India and Iran Strengthen Diplomatic Ties for Regional Stability, Reaffirm Economic Cooperation

India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval held a telephone conversation on Sunday with Dr. Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. During the discussion, Doval expressed India's interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation in the development of the Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Embassy of Iran in India stated:
"India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval spoke on the phone with Dr. Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and representative of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the conversation, Doval praised Iran’s constructive role and reiterated India’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in the development of Chabahar Port and the INSTC. He also thanked Iran for its continued support and collaboration."

The statement further added:
“Dr. Ahmadian emphasized that as two ancient civilizations, Iran and India share deep historical ties and immense potential for political and economic cooperation. He underscored the importance of swiftly implementing strategic projects, noting that such cooperation serves the broader interest of regional peace and stability.”

Earlier, on May 8, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during the 20th India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting held in New Delhi, noted that bilateral cooperation had made significant progress in recent years. At the start of the meeting, he recalled the 2024 summit in Kazan between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, where strategic directions were set for enhancing bilateral ties.

He stated, “I am very pleased to welcome you and your delegation to India and honored to co-chair the 20th India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting with you. Our cooperation has advanced significantly in many areas in recent years, though there are still some issues we need to resolve.”
