Praising the United States' role in mediating the newly announced ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called it a “new beginning” for South Asia that could help resolve long-standing regional conflicts.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Shehbaz stated that today’s ceasefire marks the beginning of a broader movement toward stability in the region.
“Pakistan believes this is a new beginning—one that can pave the way to resolving the issues that have long kept this region away from peace, prosperity, and stability,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the significant contribution of President Donald Trump, who reportedly played a key role in facilitating the truce, along with Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“Pakistan thanks the United States for helping achieve this outcome, which we have embraced in the interest of regional peace and stability,” Shehbaz said.
“We are grateful to President Trump for his leadership and active role in promoting peace in this region. We also thank Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their valuable contributions toward peace in South Asia.”
Analysts see Shehbaz Sharif’s public acknowledgment of U.S. mediation as a significant diplomatic gesture, potentially signaling Islamabad’s interest in deepening strategic ties with Washington amid a shifting regional landscape.
