UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has expressed “serious concern” over the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. In a statement issued on Wednesday, he urged both nations to engage in diplomatic dialogue in search of a peaceful resolution.
“The UK government calls on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and to participate in direct talks to urgently identify a diplomatic path forward,” Lammy said.
He further noted, “The UK has close and unique relationships with both India and Pakistan. I have made it clear to my counterparts—if this crisis escalates further, there will be no winners.”
Lammy also stated that the United Kingdom has strongly condemned last month’s terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India.
“All parties must now act urgently to restore regional stability and ensure the safety of ordinary people,” he added.
Regarding the safety of British nationals, Lammy emphasized, “The safety of UK citizens in the region remains our top priority, and the Foreign Office is closely monitoring the situation.
