Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi by phone on Monday and strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, according to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
In the statement, India noted that Putin expressed full support for India's fight against terrorism and emphasized that those responsible for the attack, as well as their sponsors, must be brought to justice.
Putin was the latest world leader to speak with Modi following the Pahalgam attack. U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had also previously conveyed their support.
“Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen the ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’ between India and Russia,” the statement added. Prime Minister Modi also extended greetings to President Putin on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day and invited him to participate in the annual summit to be held in India later this year.
