Syria's new flag raised at UN headquarters is the crown of our people's victory – Syrian Foreign Minister Shaibani

According to a report by Anadolu Agency, on Friday morning, Syria's new flag was raised alongside the flags of other member states at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The flag-raising ceremony was attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen, permanent representatives of various countries to the UN, and members of the Syrian civil society living in the United States.

Amid cheers and applause, the revolutionary flag of Syria was hoisted at the UN headquarters, joining the flags of 193 member states and 2 observer states.

Speaking to the media at the event, al-Shaibani said, “This is a message to the entire world, to all freedom-loving people around the globe. The moment we are witnessing is not only for Syrians; it is a moment of global significance. The will of the people has triumphed.”

He further stated, “(The raising of Syria’s flag at the UN) is the crown of our people's victory.”

Outside the UN building, Syrians residing in the United States also participated in the event, waving flags and celebrating enthusiastically.

Al-Shaibani engaged closely with the attending citizens, shaking hands and conversing with them.

The new Syrian flag, known as the “revolutionary flag,” was adopted through foreign missions following the fall of the 61-year-old Ba'athist regime.

This flag had been used by the opposition during Syria’s civil war.
