According to a report by Reuters, a 15-year-old student carried out a knife attack at a school in the western French city of Nantes on Thursday, killing one student and injuring three others. Police stated that after the attack, teachers subdued the suspect, and later the police took him into custody.

Local media outlet BFM TV reported that the deceased student was a girl, while the three injured were male students. However, police have not yet confirmed the names, ages, or identities of the victims.

The incident occurred at Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides, a private Catholic school in Nantes. Following the attack, students were kept inside the school until the afternoon and were later allowed to leave under police protection. Concerned parents gathered outside the school during this time.

One parent, Nicolas, said, “We’re just waiting to hug our children… so they can recover from this emotional trauma.”

A classmate told reporters that the suspect often spoke about Nazi ideology. “He used to say he wanted to bring back Hitler’s ideas. We thought he was joking,” the student said.

It has been reported that before the attack, the suspect sent a long email to all students at the school. French media stated that the email contained environmental and anti-globalist messages, but no direct threats of violence.

France’s Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau, said, “Such acts of violence are the result of lax discipline and a lack of order.” However, he did not provide further details regarding the suspect’s background or motive.

Nantes Mayor Johanna Rolland said, “It’s not yet time for political analysis of this incident. But the mental health of young people in our country is a critical issue.”

The Nantes prosecutor is scheduled to hold a press conference on Friday to provide updates on the investigation.
