London (March 31) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Sunday to discuss the UK-US "Economic Prosperity Agreement."
A statement released from 10 Downing Street stated, "There was a series of discussions about a UK-US Economic Prosperity Agreement between their respective teams, and they agreed that these discussions will progress quickly this week."
Meanwhile, Trump announced last Wednesday that he would impose a 25% tariff on imported cars and car parts in the United States, effective from April 2. This has raised concerns about the impact on the UK’s largest single export market. However, the UK has not expressed any intention to retaliate in this regard.
Additionally, Trump sent his "best wishes" to King Charles III and wished him good health after the king experienced temporary side effects following cancer treatment and visited the hospital on Thursday.
Significantly, the two leaders also discussed Ukraine. Starmer informed Trump about the "productive discussions" at the Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris last week. They agreed on the need to maintain "collective pressure" against Russian President Vladimir Putin and to stay in contact with each other in the future.
