President Donald Trump Warns Iran of Severe Consequences If It Does Not Agree to a Nuclear Deal
Washington, March 30, 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Iran that if it does not reach a nuclear deal with Washington, it will face severe consequences, including bombings and other harsh penalties. In a telephone interview with NBC News, Trump said, "If they don't make a deal, there will be bombings. But if they don't make a deal, I could impose second-round tariffs on them, just like I did four years ago."
During his first term as president from 2017 to 2021, Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, which had imposed strict limits on Iran's nuclear activities and, in return, lifted sanctions. Following this, Trump re-imposed wide-ranging U.S. sanctions on Iran. Since then, the Islamic Republic of Iran has significantly exceeded the deal's specified limits in its nuclear enrichment activities.
Iran has not yet responded to Trump's nuclear deal threat. On Thursday, Iran received Trump's letter through Oman, in which Trump had called on Tehran to reach a new nuclear deal, according to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Western powers have accused Iran of enriching uranium with the intent to build nuclear weapons, which they claim is not justified for a peaceful nuclear energy program. However, Tehran insists that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful energy purposes.
