British Prime Minister Starmer Agrees with President Donald Trump on Strengthening European Defense
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that European countries should increase their defense responsibilities, agreeing with U.S. President Donald Trump's comments on the matter. In an interview with The New York Times, Starmer said, "We need to think more urgently about our defense and security."
Starmer is attempting to form a multinational military force to secure Ukraine's airspace, ports, and borders, which he has referred to as a "coalition of the willing." He hopes that, after any peace agreement, this force will ensure Ukraine's security.
Regarding Trump, Starmer said, "Personally, I think our relationship is good." However, he noted some confusion due to some of Trump’s actions, such as imposing a 25% tariff on British steel and criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In this context, Starmer emphasized that European countries must strengthen their defense capabilities, particularly by increasing their contributions under NATO, so they can independently protect their own security.
