Macron: France or UK Does Not Need Russia's Permission to Deploy Troops in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron has made it clear that France or the United Kingdom does not need Russia's permission to deploy troops in Ukraine. He stated that several countries are planning to send troops to war-torn Ukraine after a ceasefire to help maintain peace.
No Plan for Large-Scale Deployment in Ukraine
Macron clarified that France and its allies are not planning a large-scale troop deployment in Ukraine. Instead, small contingents of a few thousand troops may be strategically stationed to ensure Ukraine's security.
He also mentioned that several European and non-European countries have expressed interest in this potential deployment. In addition to sending troops, they are also keen on providing advanced training for Ukrainian soldiers.
Western Countries' Role in Ensuring Security
According to Macron, the deployment of NATO-member troops in Ukraine would be an effective measure to ensure security. He emphasized that the presence of allied forces on Ukrainian soil depends on Ukraine’s request, not on Russia’s approval.
He stated, "If Ukraine invites allied forces onto its territory, Russia has no right to approve or reject that decision."
Plan to Increase Pressure on Russia
Macron’s remarks came ahead of his meeting with Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, followed by discussions with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer participated in a virtual meeting with 30 world leaders to discuss the Ukraine crisis in detail.
Starmer urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to sign a ceasefire agreement if he is genuinely committed to peace. He also stated that Ukraine’s allies would continue to put pressure on the Kremlin and move forward with the peacekeeping force plan to the "operational phase."
Macron: Russia Does Not Want Peace
The French President asserted that Russia has not shown any real indication of wanting peace. Instead, Moscow is escalating the conflict further and intends to negotiate only after seizing more territories.
He stated, "Russia must respond clearly, and together with the United States, we must continue our pressure to ensure a ceasefire."
How France and its allies will implement this plan and how Russia will react to it has now become one of the most crucial issues in international politics.
