US and Ukrainian Delegations Hold Talks in Saudi Arabia on Peace Agreement with Russia
Saudi Arabia – On Tuesday, US and Ukrainian representatives began discussions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, about a potential peace agreement with Russia. According to information from Al Arabiya television, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha participated in the talks, which were also attended by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
The purpose of these talks is to discuss a possible peace agreement with Russia, in which Ukraine is expected to propose a partial ceasefire, aimed at gaining further support from Washington.
Following the tensions from a clash last month between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump at the White House, this meeting is seen as an effort to strengthen US-Ukrainian relations.
On Sunday, Trump stated that the US expects Ukraine to demonstrate a commitment to peace. "We are going to make a lot of progress," he remarked.
On Monday, Zelenskyy said on Telegram that Ukraine has been seeking peace since the start of the war, and that Russia is the only reason the war continues.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a military operation against Ukraine. Moscow has insisted that Kyiv must abandon its aspirations to join Western military alliances for peace to be possible, a condition that Ukraine views as interference in its sovereignty.
This discussion is seen as a crucial step towards establishing peace and security globally.
