Washington - March 7, 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, proposing a new agreement to control Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program. Trump stated that he wants to make a new deal as an alternative to the one he withdrew the U.S. from during his first term.

Iran's state media has highlighted Trump's acknowledgment, which was broadcast as part of an interview on Fox Business News. However, Khamenei's office has not yet confirmed the receipt of this letter. The full interview will be aired this coming Sunday.

Trump’s acknowledgment comes at a time when both Israel and the U.S. have expressed concerns that they will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, raising the possibility of military conflict as Tehran continues to enrich uranium to the levels required for nuclear weapons.

Trump said, "I sent them a letter where I said, 'I hope that you will engage in discussions, because if we have to do something militarily, it would be very bad.'" He added, "I sent the letter 'yesterday,'" referring to the interview, which was recorded on Thursday.

President Trump has consistently worked to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. According to the latest report by the United Nations' nuclear watchdog agency, Iran has accelerated the production of uranium that could be used for nuclear weapons, increasing pressure on Trump.

Meanwhile, Khamenei had shown openness to starting talks with the U.S. last August, but in the recent incident, he has hardened his stance, saying, "Negotiating with the U.S. is neither wise, reasonable, nor respectful."
