Kyiv, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that the confrontation with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office last week was "regrettable," and he is ready to work for peace under Trump's "strong leadership."
Zelenskyy's remarks — which seem to be an attempt to appease Trump — were made in a social media post, just hours after the White House announced the suspension of vital military aid to Ukraine, which is crucial in resisting Russia's invasion.
He also said that Ukraine is ready to sign a lucrative deal with the United States, which will include rare-earth minerals and security.
Referring to Trump’s critical remarks after the controversial White House meeting on Friday, where Zelensky was accused of not wanting peace, the Ukrainian leader said, “None of us want an endless war.”
"Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring peace. No one wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I are ready to work under President Trump's strong leadership to achieve lasting peace," he said.
The meeting “did not go the way it was supposed to,” Zelenskyy said. "It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We want future cooperation and communication to be constructive."
