"I trust President Donald Trump, but I do not trust President Putin." -Prime Minister Keir Starmer:                                                                                                                                                                                                         London — Britain, France, and Ukraine have agreed to develop a ceasefire plan, which will be presented to the United States later, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed on Sunday. He was preparing to host a summit of European leaders, where discussions will focus on ending the war.

The summit was overshadowed by the unresolved meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Starmer said he wanted to act as a bridge to restart peace talks, using this opportunity to engage with Trump, Zelenskyy, and French President Emmanuel Macron, rather than "ramping up the rhetoric."

He said, “We have now agreed that the United Kingdom, along with France and possibly one or two other countries, will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting, and then we will discuss that plan with the United States.”

Sunday’s summit is seen as an important step in defending Ukraine’s cooperation and strengthening the continent’s defenses. Starmer stated that the summit might include discussions on sending a European military force to Ukraine to support a ceasefire. He added, “This will be done through a coalition of the willing.”

Starmer further stated that he does not trust Russian President Vladimir Putin, but he trusts Trump.

He said, “Do I believe Donald Trump when he says he wants lasting peace? The answer to that is yes.”

Starmer mentioned that there are “intense discussions” with the United States to secure a security guarantee for Ukraine, which will serve as one of three key components for lasting peace.

“If there is to be a deal, then that agreement must be protected, because the worst outcome would be if there is a temporary pause and then Putin strikes again,” Starmer said.

The summit will also include leaders from France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Canada, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania. The Turkish foreign minister, NATO secretary-general, and the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council will also participate.
