Hamas Says No Second Phase Ceasefire Talks Until 600 Palestinian Prisoners Are Released
Gaza: A Hamas official has stated that the delay in Israel's release of 600 Palestinian prisoners, as promised, constitutes a serious violation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He further stated that no talks on the second phase of the ceasefire will be possible until these prisoners are released.
Under the agreement, Hamas was supposed to release the prisoners who were captured during its October 7, 2023 attack, after which Israel was to free these Palestinian prisoners. However, Israel postponed the release, citing the public display of the prisoners.
In a written statement, senior Hamas official Bassem Naim said, "Hamas has fully adhered to all provisions of the agreements, and Israel’s delay is jeopardizing the agreement, potentially leading to the resumption of war."
This situation could escalate tensions between Israel and Hamas and create obstacles to future peace talks.
