London, February 18: After a massive 5-0 defeat in the London derby against Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur manager Robert Vilahamn is facing criticism. His "Spurs way" football philosophy, which is praised when successful, has turned into a major setback for both the team and the coach when it fails.
Vilahamn admitted after the match that he felt somewhat foolish following the defeat to Arsenal. He said, "When you can't succeed, of course, I’m sitting here looking a bit stupid, I get that. But this is part of my journey with this team, and I want to do the best I can."
Although Tottenham managed to resist initially, they were unable to recover after Arsenal took the lead. Arsenal had 27 shots compared to Tottenham's 6, and despite Tottenham goalkeeper Lize Kop making several impressive saves, she could not prevent five goals from going in.
After an 8-0 aggregate goal difference against Arsenal, Vilahamn acknowledged that his tactics could be questioned. He said, "An 8-0 goal difference is not good against any team. We had some good moments in the game, but they are a better team than us."
Following the match, experts have pointed out that Tottenham needs to make changes. Renowned football analyst Fara Williams stated, "It’s now a question whether Tottenham can continue in this manner. There are clearly some problems here."
As a result of this defeat, Tottenham has conceded 31 goals so far this season, only more than Crystal Palace (38 goals).
Vilahamn is particularly concerned about the team's situation. He said, "If we lose like this to other teams, it wouldn’t be a big problem, but a 5-0 loss can never be accepted."
