Kim Jong Un Pledges to Further Develop North Korea's Nuclear Power

Pyongyang, February 9, 2025: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un criticized the trilateral military cooperation between the United States, Japan, and South Korea, and pledged to further develop the country's nuclear capabilities as a countermeasure to escalate tensions in the region.

Kim Jong Un stated that the deployment of the United States' strategic nuclear assets, war exercises, and military cooperation with Japan and South Korea are disrupting the military balance of the region, creating a major security challenge.

He added, “The DPRK (North Korea) does not want unnecessary tension in the region, but will continue to take countermeasures to maintain the military balance of the region.”

On Saturday, during a visit to the Ministry of Defense, he reiterated his commitment to the development of nuclear power, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Korean People's Army.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed concern over North Korea's nuclear program after meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Friday, but Kim once again made it clear that the country’s nuclear development policy remains unchanged.

Regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, Kim stated, “The DPRK’s army and people will firmly support and encourage the Russian army and people in their just cause to protect sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.”

Additionally, North Korea once again criticized South Korea's military cooperation with the United States and warned that aggressive actions could face unexpected consequences.
