New Tactics of Mexican Drug Cartels: Plan for Explosive Drone Attacks on U.S. Border Guards
Washington, February 4, 2025: While the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is intensifying border security and taking strict measures against illegal immigration, Mexican drug cartels are planning new tactics to attack border guards. According to a report by the New York Post, cartel leaders have authorized the use of explosive drones and kamikaze drones against U.S. border patrol agents.
An internal memo titled "Officer Safety Alert" states that cartels are planning to use explosive drones targeting U.S. forces and border patrol agents deployed at the border. On February 1, 2025, the El Paso Sector Intelligence and Operations Center (EPT-IOC) received this information. Border guards have been advised to wear their bulletproof vests and use heavy weapons.
Cartels Incite Hate on Social Media A report by News Nation mentions that Mexican drug cartels are using social media, especially TikTok, to incite hatred toward U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers. Some posts even suggest defecating and urinating on ICE agents' cars. Professional assassins have also been called to kill border patrol agents.
Shooting at Border Guards in Texas Last week, cartel members opened fire on U.S. border guards in the Fronton area of Texas. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), after sensing the presence of the Mexican military, cartel members took refuge on an island near the border.
U.S. Senator's Cartel Combat Plan Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Mike Lee (Republican, Utah) has proposed allowing private security firms or specially trained citizens to combat cartels. He suggested that Congress could issue a "Letter of Mark and Reprisal," allowing private organizations to participate in anti-cartel operations, which could help combat drug and human trafficking.
These plans by Mexican cartels are seen as a major threat to U.S. border security. Border security agencies have been instructed to remain vigilant and monitor any drone activity.
