Mexico: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Monday that Mexico will send 10,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, and in exchange, the implementation of President Donald Trump's threatened tariffs will be delayed for one month.

Sheinbaum made the announcement on social media, roughly 12 hours before the tariffs were set to take effect. Sheinbaum and Trump spoke on the phone on Monday and agreed that Mexico will take further action to combat drug trafficking, while the U.S. will work to block the flow of illegal firearms into Mexico.

Sheinbaum also mentioned that officials from both Mexico and the U.S. have started discussions on broader trade and security issues.

Trump also confirmed the deal in a post on Truth Social, stating, "I just had a very friendly conversation with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, where she agreed to immediately send 10,000 Mexican soldiers to the border. These soldiers will be specifically tasked with stopping the flow of fentanyl and illegal migrants into our country."

After the deal, Trump mentioned that the tariff plans will be paused for one month to allow negotiations between both countries to move forward.
