Chelsea FC further strengthened their position at the top of the Women's Super League. In a thrilling match at Stamford Bridge, Guro Reiten's 84th-minute penalty secured a 1-0 victory over Arsenal, pushing Chelsea nine points clear in the title race.

The match was largely scrappy, with both teams heading towards a draw. However, two Chelsea substitutes turned the game around in the final moments.

Lauren James, who was brought on in the 57th minute, injected fresh energy into the team’s performance. After skipping past Mariona Caldentey, she was brought down by Arsenal defender Kim Little’s desperate challenge. Following the incident, Arsenal’s Katie McCabe received a second yellow card and was sent off.

After Reiten’s penalty goal, Arsenal could not stage a comeback. A visibly frustrated Katie McCabe kicked the tunnel on her way off the pitch, which might result in further disciplinary action. Despite Chelsea’s win, Renee Slegers’ side had dominated for much of the game but left disappointed.

Before the match, Chelsea introduced their record-breaking signing, U.S. defender Naomi Girma, to the crowd. The 24-year-old star joined Chelsea from San Diego Wave for a reported fee of £900,000.

Following the match, Chelsea right-back Lucy Bronze expressed confidence that the team could go unbeaten for the entire season. Speaking to the BBC, she said, “We’re aiming to win four trophies, which is very challenging. This points gap was crucial to keep us in a strong position while competing in all cups. We want to remain unbeaten for the season, and we’re on a good path.”

This win marks an essential step for Chelsea as they aim to set new records and win the Champions League for the first time.
