Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who has been undergoing medical treatment abroad, is in critical condition. She has been hospitalized at Evercare Hospital in the capital for more than a month, and her health is deteriorating day by day. Last Saturday night, she was transferred to the ICU due to breathing difficulties. However, she was brought back to her cabin when her breathing improved somewhat. Despite more than a month of treatment, there has been little improvement in her physical condition, which is causing concern among her doctors.
They have stated that Khaleda Zia is suffering from various health issues related to old age, but her primary problem at the moment is liver cirrhosis, which is causing physical complications. She is retaining fluid in her abdomen, and efforts to reduce this fluid have been unsuccessful. Additionally, she occasionally experiences breathing difficulties.
In such a critical condition, on September 24, the central office of her party organized a gathering in front of the Naya Paltan office. The party’s Secretary-General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, addressed the gathering and expressed his deep concern for Khaleda Zia’s health. He mentioned that Khaleda Zia, who has always shown immense strength and determination in the face of adversity, has not shed a tear even once during her five years in prison. However, now he has seen her extremely unwell for the first time, and it worries him.
Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir urged the government to release Khaleda Zia within the next 48 hours and arrange for her medical treatment abroad. He emphasized that if anything happens to her, the damage will not only be to her family but to the entire country, and especially to the BNP.
On the other hand, the government is also considering taking strategic steps to allow Begum Zia to receive medical treatment abroad. Various sources indicate that significant political maneuvers are being made, which could grant permission for her to seek medical care overseas.
