A ceasefire agreement between the Israeli forces and the Palestinian militant group Hamas has taken effect in the Gaza Strip, following a brief delay. The 15-month-long war has led to significant political changes and devastation in the Middle East.
A doctor and local residents in Gaza reported that there had been no military strikes or clashes for several minutes prior to the ceasefire's implementation. The ceasefire was initially scheduled for 0630 GMT but was delayed due to Hamas not providing a list of hostages. Hamas stated that the delay was due to "technical reasons" related to the list.
According to the agreement, three female hostages will be released on Sunday afternoon, and according to Hamas media, Israeli forces have begun withdrawing from parts of Gaza.
This ceasefire marks an important political moment for the Middle East, being the largest break in hostilities in recent months.
