Mumbai, India — Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan was attacked and stabbed at his home early Thursday, undergoing surgery at a hospital, according to media reports.
The 54-year-old actor was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where he lives with his actress wife Kareena Kapoor and their two sons.
The Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that two of Khan's six wounds were deep, one of which was near his spine.
Indian police said that the intruder entered Khan's house around 2:30 a.m., stabbed him, and fled the scene. A female employee at Khan's home was also injured in the attack and is receiving treatment.
Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the attacker.
Khan's wife, Kareena Kapoor, issued a statement saying the family is safe and requested that the media and fans refrain from speculating further, trusting the police investigation.
Saif Ali Khan, who is also a film producer, has appeared in over 70 films and television series. He is the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore.
Throughout his acting career, Khan has won multiple awards, including seven Filmfare Awards, and in 2010, he was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award.
