Part of: US Midterm Election 2026
White House Reminds Americans ‘Trump Is Still Your President’ After Election Defeat
President Donald Trump’s Republican Party suffered a major setback in the midterm elections. The White House responded by reminding Americans that Trump remains the president.
The Democratic Party has dealt a major blow to President Donald Trump’s Republican Party in the US midterm elections. After Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress, the White House posted a message on social media reminding Americans that Trump is still serving as president.
The White House’s official X account shared a photograph of Trump with a bold message reading, “PSA: TRUMP IS STILL YOUR PRESIDENT.” The post also included the line, “Thank you for your attention to this matter.” The message drew attention amid discussions about the Republican Party’s election defeat. Earlier, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted a similar message on X, writing, “Donald J. Trump is the President of the United States. Still your President!”
The US midterm elections were held on November 3. Voters elected members to all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats. Elections for governor were also held in 36 states. Democrats secured major victories, gaining control of both the House and the Senate. As a result, Democrats are set to control Congress beginning in January 2027.
The election results represent a significant political setback for the Trump administration. Republicans previously held majorities in both chambers of Congress, making it easier for the president to advance his policies. With Democrats taking control, the administration is likely to face greater scrutiny. Democrats will also have more opportunities to investigate government activities and challenge the president’s decisions.
Following the Republican defeat, Trump responded on his social media platform, Truth Social. He wrote, “I wasn't on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!” Through this statement, Trump suggested that Republicans would have performed much better if he had personally been on the ballot.
Trump also indicated that he could use his presidential veto power to block legislation passed by a Democratic-controlled Congress if he disagrees with it. A veto allows the president to reject a bill passed by Congress, although lawmakers can override a presidential veto with a two-thirds majority in both chambers.
the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm elections does not mean Trump will lose his presidency. Midterm elections determine control of Congress and several state governments; they do not elect a new president. Trump’s current presidential term is scheduled to end on January 20, 2029.
despite his party’s election setback, Trump will remain president until the end of his term unless an extraordinary constitutional process changes that situation. The Democratic victory is expected to create a new political environment in Washington, making it more difficult for the Trump administration to advance its legislative agenda over the next two years.
