Delhi Tightens Security Ahead of 18th BRICS Summit

Security has been tightened across the Indian capital ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, with nearly 4,800 traffic police personnel set to oversee VVIP movements and more than 35 major roads identified for traffic restrictions and diversions.

The summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 11 to 13, with foreign leaders and other senior dignitaries expected to attend, according to the Times of India.

Citing ANI, the newspaper reported that the Delhi Police and other security agencies have entered the final stage of preparations. Thousands of personnel have been deployed, while surveillance has been intensified along routes designated for VVIP movements.

Around 22 diversion points will be used to regulate traffic during the movement of foreign delegations and VVIP convoys. Nearly 4,800 traffic police personnel will be deployed to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of the dignitaries.

Security has also been strengthened at around 10 major hotels where foreign delegates are expected to stay, as well as at 12 other key locations across the capital.

India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit as the grouping’s chair for 2026. The main leaders’ summit is scheduled for September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam, while the BRICS Business Forum will take place on September 11.
