US Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln Arrives in Thailand After 286 Days at Sea

The U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in eastern Thailand on Wednesday after spending 286 consecutive days at sea, including a lengthy deployment in the Middle East.

The carrier, carrying around 5,000 personnel, took part in the U.S. naval blockade and combat operations during the war with Iran. The unusually long deployment came amid reports of declining onboard conditions and concerns over sailors’ mental health.

The Lincoln and accompanying U.S. warships will remain in Thailand for five days for rest and recuperation. The visit is also expected to provide an economic boost to Pattaya, a major tourism destination.

Thailand, a long-standing U.S. treaty ally, maintains close military ties with Washington and regularly hosts joint exercises. The port call highlights the continuing strategic importance of Thailand to U.S. military operations in Southeast Asia.
