Greece Set for $3.6 Billion Israeli “Achilles Shield” Air Defense Deal Against Iran and Turkey

Greece is set to sign a $3.6 billion agreement with Israel to establish a multilayered air defense network designed to counter potential threats from Iran and Turkey, according to The Jerusalem Post.

After three years of negotiations, the agreement is expected to be signed Monday in Tel Aviv. If finalized, it would become the largest defense export deal in Israel’s history, according to the report.

Dubbed “Achilles Shield” by Greece, the air defense network is expected to incorporate several advanced Israeli systems:

David’s Sling: Designed to intercept heavy rockets and ballistic missiles.

SPYDER: A mobile air defense system intended to counter drones and other aerial threats.

Barak MX: Designed to defend against aircraft and various types of missiles.

The agreement is also reportedly expected to include a national command-and-control center modeled on Israel’s system, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

According to the report, the new defense network would significantly strengthen Greece’s ability to respond to potential aircraft, drone, rocket and missile threats from both Iran and Turkey.
