Saudi-Houthi Fighting Escalates as Trump Weighs Major Military Action Against Iran

Tensions in the Middle East have intensified after Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched missile attacks toward the southern Saudi Arabian city of Jizan, only days after attacking two Saudi-flagged commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

Saudi Arabia responded with what it described as a "firm, resolute, and proportionate military operation," targeting Houthi military positions inside Yemen. Saudi officials stated that the strikes were aimed solely at Houthi military infrastructure to prevent further attacks on the kingdom.

The latest violence comes amid growing concerns that the conflict could expand into a broader regional war involving Iran and the United States.

Trump Keeps Military Options Open

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering whether to significantly increase U.S. military operations against Iran after nearly two weeks of American airstrikes targeting Iranian-linked military assets.

Although a report by The New York Times claimed Trump had temporarily delayed plans for a wider military campaign, the White House strongly denied that the president had ruled out further action.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said Trump continues to prefer a diplomatic solution but emphasized that "all options remain on the table" if Iran continues supporting attacks against international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz or U.S. allies.

Cheung also noted that the United States has already imposed severe economic sanctions on Iran and carried out 13 consecutive days of military strikes in response to what Washington describes as repeated Iranian aggression.

Iran Signals Interest in Negotiations

U.S. officials say Iran is seeking renewed diplomatic negotiations, although Tehran has not publicly confirmed those claims.

There were no reported U.S. airstrikes overnight, marking the first apparent pause after nearly two weeks of continuous military operations.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Pakistan, with encouragement from China, is exploring the possibility of facilitating new talks between Washington and Tehran in an effort to reduce regional tensions.

Oil Prices Ease

Global oil prices declined following reports of possible diplomatic efforts.

Brent crude oil, the international benchmark, fell to around $96 per barrel on Friday, as investors hoped renewed negotiations could reduce the risk of supply disruptions in the Middle East.

Regional Outlook

Military analysts warn that continued Houthi attacks and any further escalation involving Iran could threaten shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz—two of the world's most important energy trade corridors.

While diplomacy remains possible, the situation remains highly volatile, with both military and diplomatic options still under consideration.
