U.S. President Donald Trump has denied ever promising that he would keep the United States out of new wars. In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump said, “I didn’t guarantee no war. Why would I have built the strongest military in the world?”

Discussing the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, Trump said he does not support “endless wars” but argued that the current conflict is different. “This is not an endless war. We’ve been doing this for three months,” he said.

However, critics point out that during the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump repeatedly pledged not to involve the United States in new conflicts. In his election victory speech, he declared, “I’m not going to start a war. I’m going to stop wars.”

During the interview, Trump also defended a proposed compensation fund for supporters who believe they were unfairly prosecuted by the federal government. Although his attorneys recently indicated the plan would not move forward, Trump said he would support it if Congress approved the measure.

The president is facing growing pressure over the cost of the Iran conflict, rising fuel prices, and the continued U.S. military presence in the Middle East. Trump declined to commit to withdrawing roughly 50,000 American troops stationed in the region, saying it would be “foolhardy” to remove them before the situation is fully resolved.

Trump also addressed Iran’s nuclear program, suggesting that if diplomatic efforts fail, the U.S. could continue military operations and later secure Iran’s highly enriched uranium to prevent it from being used in a nuclear weapon.

Despite concerns about the length and cost of the conflict, Trump insisted that the threat from Iran has been significantly reduced and expressed confidence that the war will end soon.
