Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus had a busy schedule on the opening day of the COP-29 Global Climate Change Summit, engaging with leaders from at least 20 countries and heads of international organizations.
On Tuesday (November 12), the Chief Adviser’s press wing confirmed the developments.
During the summit, Dr. Yunus met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and First Lady Emine Erdoğan. In their meeting, President Erdoğan extended an invitation to Dr. Yunus to visit Turkey. He also assured Bangladesh of comprehensive support in its journey toward reform and prosperity. In return, Dr. Yunus invited the Turkish President and First Lady to visit Bangladesh soon.
In addition to his meeting with the Turkish leadership, Dr. Yunus held talks with other prominent global figures, including:

- Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan
- Mohamed Muizzu, President of Maldives
- Denis Bećirović, President of Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE
- Shina Ansari, Vice President of Iran
- Gianni Infantino, FIFA President
- Marina Silva, Brazil’s Minister of Environment
- Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania
- Jakov Milatović, President of Montenegro
- Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados
- Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana
The meetings underscored a shared commitment to tackling climate change and strengthening international cooperation. Dr. Yunus emphasized Bangladesh’s dedication to sustainable development and climate resilience while seeking increased global support for the country’s efforts.
