Trump Pardons Giuliani — Sparks Outrage Over 2020 Election Probe

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a series of controversial pardons for several of his close allies, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who faced legal troubles over attempts to challenge the 2020 election outcome.

The pardons, announced late Thursday, also include former Trump campaign officials and lawyers who were accused of participating in efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s election victory.

A statement from Trump’s office described the pardons as “acts of justice correcting political persecution,” claiming that those targeted were “punished for defending election integrity.”

Giuliani, Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, had been under investigation for spreading false claims about voter fraud and supporting efforts to pressure state officials to reverse election results.

Critics, however, say the move undermines the rule of law. “This is a clear abuse of presidential power,” said legal analyst Mary Richards. “Pardons should serve justice, not shield political allies.”

The White House and the Department of Justice have not commented on the matter. Analysts suggest the pardons may have political motivations as Trump eyes a potential 2028 campaign comeback.
